Here are projects where our clients stepped out of the box a little to capture the vision they had for their furniture. A little more color, a little more power, a little more play. Peek in on examples of what other folks have done with their upholstery projects.
Vintage Sofa Re-Imagined - Audubon, NJ
A salvaged Duncan Phyfe sofa was to replace a clunker in the front room. But it had to be unique! The Zebra showcase fabric was priced preciously, so we suggested an affordable plain velvet to surround it. With black gimp, skip spaced nails, and excruciating pattern matching it is a delight! With some foundation tightening and a new cushion comfortable as well.
Here is what Marie had to say about it:
What a stunning piece of furniture. I am in love! Long live the zebra! Thank you so much for the wonderful craftsmanship that went into this piece of furniture. So much better than buying a new sofa!
Playful Wing Chair - Brigantine NJ
This modern wing chair was playful from the beginning. But wear and fading had dampened the fun. Smiles returned with with this brilliant musically inspired fabric. Some new padding and tricky cutting puts this chair happily in front of this Brigantine, NJ home.
The fabric was so much fun to work with, I have to share a full picture of it!
Not So Traditional Arm Chair - Haddonfield NJ
A pair of rosewood balloon back arm chairs brought from predictable to striking. With rebuilt upholstery foundations - functional as well for this Haddonfield, NJ home.
Luminous Sectional Sofa - Logan Twp NJ
Found at Habitat For Humanity, the size and style were perfect to define an area. The color and condition - not so much. With the fireplace as a focal point the goal was to establish a conversation area without closing the space down. A shimmery chenille from Charlotte Fabrics put a bright spot on the floor.
Brilliant Sofa - Palmyra NJ
" A splash of late day sunshine all the time" , we learned when delivering the completed sofa. And that it is - far from it's ho-hum original.
Bird Loving Reupholstery - Haddonfield NJ
The bird fabric on a modern chair would be rather normal. Reupholstered on an Eastlake arm chair, the fabric is quirky and fun. A theme chair, it is destined to be in front of a window overlooking bird feeders.
Let There Be Brass! - Philadelphia
Sleeper sofas with a history from the first apartment. Still going, but a bit sad. The fabric HAD to be brassy. New cushions, some padding in the arms, and a brass toned velvet from Greenhouse Fabrics put some flash in the room.
Broad Brush - Mullica Hill NJ
A legacy chair. It had to stay - but not like it was. The fabric scope was not traditional and not loud. This large pattern textured woven from Fabricut hit the spot. A bold move on a traditional wing chair, but a tasteful stroke in the room.
Sun room Turquoise - Pine Hill NJ
Bright sun room. Blah furniture. Reupholstering the lounge in a turquoise solid with a coordinating floral on the side chair puts some fresh in the room. The secondary color in the chair pulls in the wall as well.
Fresh and Fun - Burlington County NJ
Reupholstering a traditional wing chair with an ocean themed fabric seemed odd. When we placed the chair in front of the windows, it was light and playful. The colors are muted and sensitive.
What is A Traditional Zebra? - Salem NJ
A traditional open arm chair. A long-standing wish to have something zebra. A zebra printed hair-on-hide cowhide. A coordinating velvet for the outside to avoid weird zebra mismatches. An accent chair unlike any other!
Floral Accent - Swedesboro NJ
Another legacy chair meets a new house. The chair is a memorial. The worn fabric and finish and the crunchy cushion were not very honorable. Roses were a target, but a multicolored floral clashed against the grey neutrals in the room. A large pattern of blue roses on a white background put a fresh focus in the room.
Easy Day Platform Rocker - Palmyra NJ
Easy, fresh, quietly playful - those words came up as the revived rocking chair came together. Slated as a reading chair.
Refreshing Settee Makeover - Sewell NJ
Reupholstering this Sheraton style settee put a fresh spin on this traditional piece. The frame comes to life. While the large pattern floral from Carole Fabrics can be called traditional, the linen-like stria dodges "stodgy".
Let There Be Purple! - Haddon Heights NJ
Black is traditional on Chesterfield sofas. "We have too much black", she said. After a cascade of samples a synthetic velvet from Charlotte Fabrics was the one. Purple is the color of royalty. A royal Chesterfield!
When reupholstering furniture, the wide array of fabrics are available to suit your vision and lifestyle. These projects explored some different possibilities! We hope you got some inspiration and ideas.
Makeover story about a very large sectional sofa in Ventnor NJ reupholstered twice, 10 years apart. Before and after photos, fabrics, and impressive wall art. Also featuring a hole in the earth, a bridge, and some colorful determination at the pick-up.
