Upholstery Cost Wing Chair - Moorestown NJ

Upholstery Cost for a Wing Chair in Moorestown NJ

Wing Chair - Before

Could this petite fireside wing chair move to a new condominium in Moorestown, NJ?

She thought it would make a nice bedroom chair:  smaller, vertical, covered legs, a comfortable back.  The chair had promise.

But it needed an upholstery makeover to fit the new decor.  Easy to see why.  The styling sort of anchors it to the floor.  The mustard herculon fabric screams "1970s".  Looking at it, I get nostalgic for re-runs of "Mannix" and "The Waltons".

But the wing back did promise a more "bedroom" feel than similarly sized parson's style chair.

The Fabric for the Wing Chair

We had a chat with the client and established that the upholstery fabric needed to have a plum color in it, had to be a natural pattern (floral or random), and needed a light feel to not over-power the smaller scale of the chair.

Spinning through our fabric library, we sent her some sample swatches to start.

From the first group we mailed, she selected a fabric and didn't want to see more.  She knew it was the right one.  From Kasmir.  Pattern Afton Stripe, color Damson.

The fresh color palette gives a crisp feel without being loud.  And the wide, alternate pattern introduces a sense of movement.  No wonder she stopped looking.  It has all the elements she wanted.

The Re-Upholstered Wing Chair

Avoiding the "frowdy" (frumpy+dowdy???) styling on the chair, we replaced the box-pleat skirt with a tailored skirt.  Smaller diameter piping on the body and cushions echoed the wing chair's smaller proportions.

The seat cushion was shot - a fossil.  A new cushion of medium density foam with a dacron outer wrap restored the sitting height and comfort.

Seven yards of the fabric just squeaked by!  The large scale pattern needed heavy cutting to keep it aligned.

When we delivered the chair, she just kept looking at it.  Not saying anything.  We began to worry, nervously straightening the skirt and plumping the cushion.  Then in a rush she blurted, "I just LOVE it - the way the pattern grows up the chair, the color - ALL of it!"  (whew)
